An electrically charged species that may dissociate to form fragments, of which one or more are ions and one or more are neutral species. A precursor ion may be a molecular ion or a fragment ion. A precursor ion may also be any ion undergoing a change in charge state.
This is a Suggested Definition and should only appear under a discussion tab. During the discussion phase of this project from 2004 to 2006, users could suggest a definition, which was highlighted and could be commented on more easily.
