DRAFT DEFINITION |
Double-focusing mass spectrometer |
---|
A mass spectrometer that uses a magnetic sector for m/z focusing and an electric sector for energy focusing of an ion beam. |
Considered between 2004 and 2006 but not included in the 2006 PAC submission |
This is an unofficial draft definition presented for information and comment. |

IUPAC. Analytical Division. Compendium of Analytical Nomenclature (the Orange Book). Definitive Rules, 1979. |
Double-focusing mass spectrometer |
---|
An instrument that uses both direction and velocity focusing so that an ion beam initially diverging and containing ions of different energies is separated into beams according to the mass/charge ratio. The ion beam is measured electrically. |
