Plasma desorption ionization

The ionization of material in a solid sample by bombarding it with ionic or neutral atoms formed as a result of the fission of a suitable nuclide, typically 252. Synonymous with fission fragment ionization

Considered between 2004 and 2006 but not included in the 2006 PAC submission

This term describes the ionization of any species by interacting it with heavy particles (which may be ions or neutral atoms) formed as a result of the fission of a suitable nuclide adjacent to a target supporting the sample.
