ORANGE BOOK DEFINITION

IUPAC. Analytical Division. Compendium of Analytical Nomenclature (the Orange Book). Definitive Rules, 1979 (see also Orange Book 2023)

Precursor ion

Synonymous with parent ion. Instead of the use of parent ion and daughter ion terms the precursor and product ion terms are preferred respectively.
