How to do a quick and simple editing of a web page
Login into Rhythmyx – http://wcms.lsu.edu - use paws account
- Click on sites-chemistry-people-faculty- your name
- Right click on your page (Content type – Academic contact page)
- Choose - quick edit
- (Fields with * are required) The following are TEXT boxes and receive only TEXT.
- System title is internal to the system and should not be changed
- Title is the external name that displays on the top line of the web browser’s window.
- Keywords – are to help a search engine find your web page. Important concept key words go here.
- Rank – is your official position in the department
- Specialty – you can put things like Physical Chemistry, Materials Science, etc., here.
- Standing(sort) – determines which group your name show up in on the Faculty Contact page.
The Biography box down through Other box are html boxes. You can edit them using the built-in Word processor or copy/paste from Word. Just click in the box and the menu for the built in word processor will appear. For a better view – click on view – window view and it will open up in a new web browser windows. When finished with the changes click the x box in the top right hand corner to close, there is no save button on this window.
When you are finished editing a page be sure to click on the update box and close the browser window.
When finished with a file – right click on the file
- Click on workflow – return to public
How to upload files and install links into a web page (for example a pdf file).
First Step is to upload the file into Rhythmyx
right click on the folder (chemistry –people –faculty- your name) in the left column.
choose new item – file
fill out the dialog box
system title should be in the following form:
“chemistry - paws id (or your name) - name (internal to Rhythmyx)
title - “name or description of file” - (this is the external name and can be seen on the web page)
click on insert
Second Step is editing the page that is to have the link in one of the html boxes
highlight the text in the box that is to be linked to the file you have uploaded.
click on insert
choose – insert Rhythmyx inline link
navigate to the pdf - (chemistry –people –faculty- your name)
choose the file you have uploaded.
click the check box “include site in the link” then click open
repeat for each file
note - the template preview is not setup right to view each file
My updates are not showing up on the Chemistry web site.
Rhythmyx is a Content Management System (CMS). You never edit the actual web page; your changes are made in a content manager that publishes your changes or new material. ITS has set Rhythmyx to publish at 4:30 am (full) and 11:00 am (incremental). Your object (page or file) must be marked as “public”. A public object will have an unlocked yellow pad lock icon.
How to change a picture in your personal web page.
Step One – you must resize the picture outside of Rhythmyx
You need a program such as Photoshop or The Gimp (free). You want your picture to 150 by X – lets the program determined the aspect ratio.
Step Two – in Rhythmyx
Navigate to your folder (sites- chemistry-people … etc)
Right click on your folder and choose – “new item - image”
- System title use the following name – Chemistry-Paws ID- Name – Picture
- Title – your name followed by picture
- Image – click on browse and locate your image from step one.
Step Three – add to web page in Rhythmyx
Navigate to your web page (sites- chemistry-people … etc) Right click on your academic contact page
- Quick edit
- Go to the bottom left corner of the page
- Click on “edit all”
- Click on “image(401)”
- Navigate to your folder
- Click on the image – your picture will appear
- Click on “include site in the link” then “open”
- Click on close
- Click on update
- Return your page to public (workflow return to public).
How to add a link to your web page
Step One – in Rhythmyx
Navigate to your folder (sites- chemistry-people … etc) Right click on your folder and choose – “new item – external link”
- System title use the following name – Chemistry-Paws ID- Link Name
- Title – Link Name – will display on web page
- URL – type in the location of your web page
Click “insert” Click – workflow return to public
Step Two Navigate to your web page (sites- chemistry-people … etc)
Right click on your academic contact page
- Quick edit
- Go to the bottom left corner of the page
- Click on “edit all”
- Click on “Lint slot(327)”
- Navigate to your folder
- Click on the link
- Click on “include site in the link” then “open”
- Click on close
- Click on update
